Hello, I'm Eric Handbury, from a small suburb an hour north of Sydney, AU. The phrase "necessity is the mother of all invention" is very true. The last 2 tennis tournaments I was interested in playing, I had difficulty lining up a doubles partner. Normally I would contact the organisers and if there was someone else in the same shoes then they would put us together. This seemed very hit/miss to me (a lot like my tennis game). There are many disadvantages to this:
- Many people will not enter without partners lined up,
- Most people don't really know the organisers,
- People like to know their weekend plans in advance,
- Organisers may not know the level/preferences of each player asking for partners,
- Getting partners for others is another administrative task on the shoulders of the organisers.
GetAPartner allows the organisers to include a link/button on their website and emails they send out. Someone who is interested in playing but without a partner can click that link and a) add their name, level, contact info, competition(s), and/or b) find someone and get their contact details, and start the next McEnroe/Fleming partnership.
The players benefit, and the tournament organisers benefit greatly as well:
- More people will play, meaning more entry fees, food/alcohol sales, pro-shop sales, etc,
- The more people playing, the more incentive there is for others to play. Players begat players begat players, as some old book said.
Only organisers need to create a Login. For participants, this site is free-of-charge. For organisers, the cost is $10 USD per event.
